What to Expect
when you arrive for surgeryPreparing for surgery:
- Please have a pre-anesthetic blood test sent to ASC prior to your pet’s admission. ASC requires a CBC-Chemistry within 3 months of the surgery date. This can be done at ASC the morning of surgery if necessary.
- The night before surgery please withhold food starting at 10pm.
- Water is allowed until the morning of surgery.
- Please withhold all morning medication unless instructed otherwise.
What to expect the morning of surgery:
- You will be asked to sign a treatment plan outlining your pet’s procedure and a consent form.
- At the time of drop off the ASC team will be happy to answer any questions and address any concerns. We will collect the completed forms.
- We will take payment for the “low-end” of the estimated costs upon drop off. We accept most major credit cards, care credit, and cash. We apologize for any inconvenience, but we do not accept Amex or personal checks.
What to expect once your pet is admitted:
- Once your pet has been admitted we will give you an estimate of the time of surgery and the time of discharge. Please note this will be an estimate that often varies due to a number of factors, including emergency cases.
- We will keep you updated throughout the day. We will keep you informed if any unforeseen delay takes place. Always feel free to call ASC (516-490-5905). We know this is an anxious time for owners and we know communication is critical during this time.
- If your pet is staying overnight at ASC 24-hour patient care will be provided.
